Indvidual Therapy
Where there is healing, there is hope.
Therapy is not “one-size fits all.” Together we will explore your experiences, behaviors, and beliefs. With the benefit of fresh insight, you will be able to identify patterns that are holding you back from health and happiness while gaining the strength and strategies to overcome them. With insight comes knowledge, and the ultimate power to heal and transform.
If you are down for that, so are we!
Life isn’t always easy. No one is exempt from pain and the difficult emotions that inevitably come our way at one point or another. Seeking out support for your mental health is a sign of strength and courage, and we are here to help guide you through a journey of growth and self-discovery.
Perhaps you’re experiencing anxiety, or you’re not happy with your job. Maybe you’re beginning to realize the traumas of your past are affecting you in negative ways and you’re seeing patterns within yourself you don’t want to have. Or, you just feel that you aren’t living the life you were meant to lead and that there’s got to be more to life. Whatever your needs may be, we are here to offer support.
Through individual therapy, patients can improve skills related to respect, confidence, and empathy. Coping Skill Development: Often, those who have mental health disorders struggle with their symptoms. This often leads to the development of poor behaviors.
At Balanced Life Counseling, LLC we offer completely confidential and individualized one-on-one services utilizing various therapeutic modalities including but not limited to EMDR Trauma Therapy, CBT, Solution-Focused Therapy, Mindfulness, and others.
Your therapist can also be a sounding board who listens to you talk about your life and validates your feelings. This isn’t the same thing as agreeing with you and supporting your every decision, but it can be more valuable – because it nurtures the idea that you’re important, your feelings are worth listening to, and you’re understood. Talking over your past, present, and future with a therapist can lead to greater self-understanding. While self-understanding doesn’t always imply self-acceptance, it is the first step towards truly embracing who you are at the core.

Developed by Alfred Adler, Individual Psychology is a theory of human behavior and a therapeutic approach that encourages individuals to make positive contributions to society as well as to achieve personal happiness.
Behavioral Therapy
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) examines how our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are connected. CBT changes patterns of distorted thinking and unhelpful behaviors to improve mood, anxiety, and other psychological issues. Unlike many other types of therapy, CBT is more active and problem-solving oriented, collaborative, and shorter-term. CBT has consistently shown to be effective across hundreds of clinical research trials and is considered the gold-standard treatment for many different disorders, such as depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and anxiety disorders. We believe that therapy shouldn’t be a mystery– a key part of our work is teaching you how to use CBT strategies and skills so that you can effectively manage your emotions for the rest of your life.
Several different types of therapies fall under the umbrella of CBT. These therapies target specific problems and include the following:
CBT for depression, anxiety, eating concerns, and stress management. CBT is an evidence-based and effective treatment for each of these conditions, focused on making long-term improvements in mood, feelings, and day-to-day functioning. This therapy teaches individuals to examine how their patterns of thinking, behaviors, and emotions interact and influence their experiences and symptoms.
Comprehensive Behavioral Treatment (ComB model) is a recently developed treatment for hair-pulling (trichotillomania), skin-picking (excoriation), and other body-focused repetitive behaviors. ComB involves modifying thoughts and feelings contributing to the problem and replacing deeply entrenched behaviors, such as pulling or picking, with helpful alternatives, including habit reversal training techniques.
Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is a modified type of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). Its main goals are to teach people how to live in the moment, develop healthy ways to cope with stress, regulate their emotions, and improve their relationships with others.
DBT was originally intended to treat borderline personality disorder (BPD), but it has been adapted to treat other mental health conditions beyond BPD. It can help people who have difficulty with emotional regulation or are exhibiting self-destructive behaviors (such as eating disorders and substance use disorders).2 This type of therapy is also sometimes used to treat post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Behavioral therapy is a term that describes a broad range of techniques used to change maladaptive behaviors. The goal is to reinforce desirable behaviors and eliminate unwanted ones.
Mindfulness and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Mindfulness therapy is a form of mental training that focuses on being aware and present in the moment. It involves paying attention to your thoughts, feelings, and physical sensations without judgment or criticism. Mindfulness therapists help people learn how to practice mindfulness and use it to reduce stress, improve emotional regulation, and cope with difficult emotions. They also teach people how to use mindfulness to increase self-compassion, manage pain, and cultivate more positive relationships.
Mindfulness exercises can be beneficial to women in many ways.
- They can help reduce stress, anxiety, and depression, as well as increase self-awareness, self-compassion, and emotional regulation.
- Mindfulness can also help women become more aware of their thoughts and feelings, which can lead to better decision making and improved communication.
- Mindfulness can improve physical health by reducing inflammation, lowering blood pressure, and improving sleep quality.
- Practicing mindfulness can help cultivate a sense of peace and well-being that is essential for overall mental health.
LGBTQ
LGBTQ stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer. Queer is the umbrella term used to encompass individuals who identify with a sexual orientation or gender identity than it is not heteronormative, such as nonbinary or genderqueer. Millions of people either identify as, or care about someone, within the LGBTQ community. Because of this, counseling can be for individuals, couples, families, or groups.
The LGBTQIA+ community has made great strides to gain its own voice, rights, and freedom. However, that has not come without significant effort and pushback. Unfortunately, homophobia and transphobia continue to exist in today’s world.
If you identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, non-binary, and/or questioning/queer and are looking for support from an LGBTQ therapist, you’ve come to the right place!
As LGBTQ+ therapists and coaches, we are committed to helping clients feel not only safe but truly respected. If you or someone you know is seeking help from an LGBTQ+ professional, contact us today.
Coming Soon!!! we will offer support groups and group therapy for a variety of specific topics or areas where the collaborative approach of group therapy might be meaningful for you in your journey.
